| University turns to Siltint - 10/6/2003 |
Siltint Industries has been using its diamond turning facility to turn parabolic mirrors of up to 275mm diameter for a leading university’s Metrology Department.
Said Siltint’s Engineering Manager, Peter Filby: “We utilised our large Hydron 2000 machine, which enables us to turn mirrors up to this diameter. After turning, the mirrors were coated with magnesium fluoride utilising Siltint’s box coating technology. This was done in order to both protect the mirror and to give a specified reflective wavelength.”
Since Siltint invested in its diamond turning technology, the company has won several large contracts to provide diamond turned lenses for night vision and sighting systems. |
